Rob MacKenzie

Rob is a registered nurse working in the alcohol and other drug sector, with over 20 years of experience across emergency, surgical, medical, and theatre nursing. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Emergency Nursing and Alcohol and Other Drugs - and proudly identifies as a bit of a science nerd.

Rob speaks openly about his lived experience of addiction, recovery, and mental health challenges. He combines lived experience with clinical expertise to help people understand addiction—both how it affects the brain and how it plays out in real people’s lives.

Rob is particularly passionate about informing on the neuroscience of addiction, and shifting conversations about addiction away from blame and towards understanding. He also suppots those with mental health and addiction issues to navigate our complex healthcare system that can be at times difficult to access and overwhelming.

At the core of his work is a simple belief - recovery is not linear, no one is immune to addiction, and no one is beyond it.
